Bodegas Miguel Calatayud, one of the oldest wineries in Valdepeñas (Spain) and their wines are taking the path to new stylish wines; a perfect balance between classic Spanish wines and modern young varietals.

Bodegas Miguel Calatayud, which was founded in 1.920, introduced last September the new vintages of their Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines under the Vegaval Plata brand.

An encouraging launching because one of this wines, the Vegaval Plata Reserva 2.006, has been awarded the Gold Medal in the last Mundus Vini International Wine Competition.

This wine has been one of the most recognised wines of Valdepeñas, with a long history of regional quality awards for over 14 years and Bodegas Miguel Calatayud has been always known for this kind of wines. But recently this traditional Spanish cellar has adapted their wines to a new modern style with an international and young approach; a complete range of fresh and well balanced monovarietals wines ranging from dry to semi-dry or semi-sweet styles. The range includes five red young wines produced with Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, one rose wine and two white wines produced with Airen and Verdejo.

Precisely this one the Vegaval Plata Verdejo won the Silver Medal in the last “Councours Mondial de Bruxelles”, the only Valdepeñas D.O. wine awarded in this important international contest; a very good alternative to traditional Rueda wines.

In the words of the winemaker, José Sanchez-Barba, who said “with this range I tried to get balanced fresh wines for both young people and for wine lovers as well”

But this is not all. Vegaval Plata has launched this last summer four new red and white semi-sweet and semi-dry wines. People are very impressed with the semi-sweet wines and particularly with the Vegaval Plata Tempranillo semi-sweet which is not a real dessert wine but sufficiently soft, sweet and well structured enough to get a perfect pairing with Asian or Mexican Food and an excellent complement of many kinds of cakes.
